Lacey Weatherford - Smitten

An infallible sequence of the Crush trilogy which I flipped through by 4 a.m. There wasn't a moment worth missing for sure!

Hunter or Dylan (whatever suits you) has just recovered from a bullet injury which he picked up while being busy saving Cami's life from her psycho friend, but instantly jumped back into deep water. After having escaped from the death's door, it's time to revaluate his priorities. Which means he has no intention to spare a moment away from her. Not now when he has finally earned her love as a just reward. But duty calls and he's obliged to go undercover in a touch-and-go business of a car theft ring. It would be just fine if it didn't require no-contact with his outside world. No surprise, he can't handle being away from his red-head-one for too long. Can't blame him much.

Skate on thin ice

Hunter gets Cami accidentally involved in his shady dealing that may go wrong at any moment. Cami is exposed to cross-fire. In order not to blow his alias, she has to play her role as Hunter's "sister" and simultaneously the gang-head's girlfriend. Not exactly what Hunter has to stomach to watch. But nor does Cami, who can't tear her eyes from Hunter's newly assigned girlfriend. Things are getting out of control: they can't help but watching the clock winding down. It's merely a matter of time till their luck goes amiss and their lives easily come to end before they've started to live.

Hand off!

Surreptitious moments, covert kisses, furtive glances, passionate caresses – that's all they get. A heat is building and I look forward to spring it a leak. They long for the one thing they can't lay hands on. Each other.

All the jealousy and overprotective macho man attitude add to the lustful package. Hunter is just working his position to the top of my book boyfriend list. Which is a long ladder to climb, by the way. And as long as he runs breathless to Cami each time she gets into every kind of trouble like a cavalier wielding sword, it's fine by me. Not to mention the sweet luring things he whispers to her ears. Masculinity and tenderness don't always go hand in hand, which just come together here. Jees, they're so cute.
Not to be one-sided, the storyline is pretty tense, as well. I'm always held in suspense when they will get busted due to their obvious uninterrupted leer at each other.

Fish out of water

As for Cami, she's a life-size garden balsam to be precise. I wouldn't give too much credit to her if it wasn't for Hunter who practically keeps her alive. But can't blame her loosing her bearings in her constant worry for Hunter. Since they have been the near escape several times, they start to appreciate the biggest gift that life could possibly give to a mortal. Time to build their own future. Only after they conducted a speedily concluded marriage in Vegas (where else?) in Elvis costume during their runaway from the bad guys. Well, it hasn't deserved the title of the most reasonable decision of the year. Still. They have a story they could tell their children. And even they are going to think how whacky parents they have.

How I feel now

Up in the air. I want more of Hunter.
